Oceanview Newsletter May 2020
Once again, I ask everyone to continue to follow safe practices regarding distancing, wearing masks, and common sense. Remember, we are still in the midst of a pandemic. Hopefully, more normal times are in sight. In the meantime, reading is certainly one of the safe activities. This is good news for writers, readers and booksellers — presently more digital than paper, but that will be changing.
Oceanview is still reacting by altering schedules for some upcoming books. We have accelerated some ebook launches and pushed back some hardcover launches to better fit the availability of outlets. It looks like bookstores will begin opening soon and we can return to a more normal release plan.
Our April release, Diver’s Paradise by Davin Goodwin, has had brisk sales as readers love to take a reprieve on the beautiful tropical island of Bonaire. A reprieve from some lingering cold weather and quarantine issues, but not a reprieve from murder and other crimes — and Goodwin certainly provides plenty of those. This is a wonderful read and will surely take your mind off of your local issues.
And our April paperback release, Speed the Dawn by best-selling and award-winning author, Philip Donlay, will let you trade our present COVID-19 disaster for another mega disaster — a huge out-of-control fire threatening the entire San Francisco Bay area. Oh well, it is a reprieve from Covid, and a very entertaining one. A great read — not to be missed.
May is a loaded month. We have released The Last Scoop by R. G. Belsky in both paper and ebook formats. Clare Carlson, the feisty TV news director and former news reporter, is hell-bent on finding out why her former boss and friend was murdered. But the police have classified his death as an accident. Clare will not be dissuaded, even at her own peril.
Next week, we will also release Rigged by D.P. Lyle in both paper, ebook, and audiobook formats. As always, Lyle’s books, featuring Jake Longly and the beautiful Nicole Jamison, are full of excitement and pithy dialogue — along with a few romantic interludes — interlaced with sheer terror. Guaranteed great entertainment.
In addition, Oceanview will release the ebook version of Fire and Vengeance by Robert McCaw later this month. McCaw puts you right beside Police Chief Koa Kāne as he investigates murder and other crimes on the Big Island of Hawai’i while the massive Mauna Loa volcano threatens to erupt. Both man-made and natural danger abound. The hardcover version will follow in September.
June will see the release of Broken Genius in paper and ebook formats. This outstanding novel comes from debut author Drew Murray. After reading this, you will be urging us to bring out another Murray book as quick as possible.
Also in June, we will release Tie Die by highly talented San Francisco author Max Tomlinson. This follows Tomlinson’s very popular and bestselling Vanishing in the Haight. Colleen Hayes is back, and once again, finds her herself in a very precarious situation. For fans of the love/hate relationship that Hayes seems to elicit and for every other suspense/mystery lover — this book is for you.
To cap off our June releases, we bring you The Reflecting Pool by debut author Otho Eskin. Eskin, an established, successful playwright, turns his exceptional talent to novel writing — and proves that dramatic talent can be translated into an unforgettable character and an edge-of-your-seat, action-filled book. The twists and turns and unfathomable surprises will make you jump on the Eskin fan bandwagon. This title will be available as an ebook on all e-readers and a hardcover version will follow.
I would also like to bring to your attention to two audiobook releases. The Warriors by Paul Batista — a battle of legal giants in and out of the courtroom — and Relentless by Shawn Wilson, a police procedural set in Washinton, D.C. Perfect for fans of Michael Connelly’s Harry Bosch.
All of these and the additional purchasing opportunities below will make your quarantine a pleasure — well, almost. So, stay safe and — keep on reading.
