August 2018 Newsletter

August has been largely a month of recovery and preparation; recovery from the excitement and activities of ThrillerFest, the International Thriller Writers annual meeting in New York City. Of course the highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the Thriller Legends Award to Oceanview founders, Pat and Bob Gussin.
Now that is behind us and we are preparing for our next big meeting, Bouchercon, the annual meeting for both authors and readers. This year the meeting is in St. Petersburg, Florida, right in our backyard. And since it is so close to our offices in Sarasota, we will be very active with over a dozen of our authors in attendance.
In addition, on August 11th, Bob and Pat participated in the Annual Authors Night sponsored by the East Hampton, New York Public Library. Bob and Pat signed their books alongside Lee Child, Alec Baldwin, Dr. Ruth, and about 50 other authors. All proceeds benefit the library. About 500 people were in attendance.

On August 7th Oceanview released Death in Shangri-La by Israeli author, Yigal Zur. Zur attended ThrillerFest in New York and had many opportunities as panel member and attendee, to promote his book. The audiences showed great interest in this wonderful and exciting book with its exotic settings in India, Israel and the beautiful but troubled Kashmir area between India and Pakistan. This is a book that you do not want to miss. Helaine Mario, author of our July release, Dark Rhapsody, also attended ThrillerFest and touted her book, another beautiful story and exciting thriller featuring the lovely concert pianist, Maggie O’Shea whose life, unfortunately, is once again in grave danger. Both Helaine and Yigal were big hits at ThrillerFest. Their books are “Must Reads.” Several other Oceanview authors were in attendance at ThrillerFest and all were active panel members. We are so proud of our authors! It is their incredible talent that makes Oceanview the premier company that it is. We cannot thank them enough.

September will feature the launch of Death at Whitewater Church by Irish author Andrea Carter. A deconsecrated church, sitting on the wild coastline of Donnegal’s Inishowen Peninsula hides a skeleton of a man wrapped in a blanket in its long-forgotten crypt. Solicitor Benedicta (Ben) O’Keefe acting for the owners of the church finds herself immersed in a mystery with twists and turns that lead to a shattering crescendo – both political and personal. A modern-day “Agatha Christie” mystery in a stunning Irish setting – soon to be a major television series.

In August we will also see the release of two of our most popular books in paperback. Deadly Diamonds by John F. Dobbyn takes you to the mean world of the child soldiers of Sierra-Leone and their blood diamonds and, from Joe Clifford, Give Up the Dead with handyman Jay Porter the prime suspect in the brutal attempted murder of his boss. Two great books now available as lower-priced paperbacks. A great opportunity for our readers.
See more purchasing opportunities below. And, keep on reading!
