SEPTEMBER NEWS
It is hard to believe that the summer is coming to an end and the kids are heading back to school. Do I hear a sigh of relief from the parents of those kids? Let’s face it. You are going to miss them. But now you will have more time to read so let’s talk about what is happening at Oceanview.
Book of Nathan was released on August 2nd and is getting rave reviews and even a sizable front page article in the Charleston (S.C.) Post and Courier. Of course that is the author Curt Weeden’s home town so they do have a special interest. But the book is off to a great start.
In September Oceanview will release Fly by Wire by Ward Larsen, the author of The Perfect Assassin and Stealing Trinity. Ward has become a e-book best-selling author and before long will likely hit the print lists as well. With the incredible reviews he is getting, Fly by Wire might just fly off the store shelves.
We were thrilled that the Associated Press issued an outstanding review of Thrillers: 100 Must-Reads and it appeared in many newspapers around the country and even on radio and television.
Finally, the mystery writers event, Mystery Florida, held in Sarasota, was a huge success, in large part due to the efforts and guidance of Chairman, Terry Griffin, one of the outstanding Oceanview authors. Other Oceanview authors participating in the event were Don Bruns, Sharon Potts and Ward Larsen. In addition, our fantastic publicist, Maryglenn McCombs was a featured speaker and our publishing manager, Frank Troncale, was interviewed and a major article appeared in a local newspaper. In addition there was outstanding Oceanview participation at Killer Nashville, a major meeting sponsored by Mystery Writers of America. Present were Maryglenn McCombs, Deborah Shlian, Don Bruns, Sharon Potts, Meredith Anthony, Larry Light and Scott Pearson, who was featured in a major article in The Nashville Tennessean about the meeting. Congratulations Scott.
What a great end of summer we have had. Let’s now “fall” into some more great books. Well, at least keep on reading.

Mystery Florida Conference
Maryglenn McCombs, Oceanview Publishing’s master of publicity, recently returned from a trip to the Mystery Florida conference and wanted to share her experience. Thanks to Maryglenn for this insider’s look!
I just returned to Nashville after spending the last few days in sunny (and somewhat cooler) Florida to attend the Mystery Florida conference. What an incredible trip!
Friday night’s Mystery Mingle, Florida’s largest book signing event, was fantastic. I knew there were lots of great Florida mystery writers out there, but to have dozens of them signing books in one room was just extraordinary. I left with a suitcase filled with books I can’t wait to read.
Oceanview was well represented at the conference. The conference organizers, including Oceanview’s own Terry Griffin (Mystery Florida’s unofficial Grand Poobah) did a tremendous job with the event, which featured authors, agents, marketing experts, reviewers, writers, and other industry pros.
In addition to Terry, Oceanview attendees included: Frank Troncale, Don Bruns, Sharon Potts, and Ward Larsen. Karen O’ Dowd, a writer with the Longboat Key News, wrote a fantastic article about the conference, which featured a photo of Frank Troncale holding Patricia Gussin’s upcoming novel, And Then There Was One. (Longboat Key News article)
One thing is true: when you get a bunch of mystery writers together in one room, prepare to be wildly entertained. Not only are these writers a fascinating group of people, but they know how to tell a story!
Being around a group of people who all share a love of good books made for a wonderful few days, and I can’t recommend the Mystery Florida conference highly enough. It was first rate all the way around.
August News
The big news in July was ThrillerFest, the three day annual meeting of The International Thriller Writers Association (ITW). Once again this exciting event was held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel on 42nd Street in Manhattan. More than 1000 attended from all over the world.
Oceanview had many reasons to be pleased. First, there were banners on poles all the way across 42nd Street from 3rd Avenue across Lexington, Park, Madison to 5th Avenue. And many of them not only announced the meeting but had Oceanview Publishing in large letters just below the meeting announcement. As one of the major sponsors Oceanview was also on banners with The Los Angeles Times, another major sponsor. Imagine the excitement of arriving in New York City and seeing our name all over the street.
But the banners were not even the best part. We had the official launch of our incredible book, THRILLERS: 100 MUST READS at the meeting and about 50 of the contributing essayists were there to sign books. And there was an entire session devoted to the book, moderated by David Morrell, the creator of Rambo and the co-editor of the book. He was joined by a panel consisting of Hank Wagner, the other co-editor and best-selling authors and essay contributors Raymond Benson, Tess Gerritsen, John Lescroart and Michael Palmer, as well as Oceanview CEO, Bob Gussin. A major ballroom was packed for this session. Not only was it a great launch for the book and there have been numerous highly favorable reviews including a major (nearly a full page) write up and review in The Washington Post.
In addition, many Oceanview authors participated on panels at ThrillerFest. Pat Gussin was a panel master as was Meridith Anthony, and John Dobbyn. Terry Griffin, and Barbara Levenson were on a panel together, and Ward Larsen, Larry Light and Scott Pearson were each on panels. You could say that Oceanview dominated the meeting.
The social venues at the meeting were also spectacular and very heavily attended(free drinks will do that), particularly the pre-banquet cocktail party that Oceanview sponsored And of course the banuet was highlighted for Oceanview by the presence of our own John Lebeau, author of COLLISION OF EVIL, who was a finalist for Best First Novel. We were thrilled that John was able to travel from his home in Garmisch, Germany to attend.
And as though all the excitement of ThrillerFest is not enough, our final bit of Big News, the August 2 launch of our first fall book of the season, BOOK OF NATHAN, by Curt Weeden and Richard Marek. With shades of Janet Evanovich meets Dan Brown, this incredibly intriguing, hilarious mystery wraps one of the most divisive issues of the day. You do not want to miss this one. So get to your favorite bookstore or get online and get your copy.
Happy reading.

Grape Expectations from the Longboat Key Observer
What could be better than the refreshing and crisp taste of a New Zealand sauvignon blanc paired with a stunning ocean view?
Very little, according to Robert and Patricia Gussin, owners of Oceanview Publishing. While the Gussins are best known in Longboat Key, Fla., for their work in the thriller and mystery publishing business, the Longboat Key Observer recently featured Oceanview’s fearless leaders in “Grape Expectations.” Highlighting the couple’s New Zealand vineyard, Oceanview Vineyards, the July 1 article tells the story of the Gussin’s simultaneous winemaking and publishing business ventures.
Check out this amazing story for yourself at Grape Expectations.
July News
The big news for July is that it is the month for ThrillerFest, the annual meeting of the International Thriller Writers. Once again the meeting will be held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City. It runs from July 7-11 and a large attendance is expected. This is an exceptionally exciting meeting for Oceanview Publishing because our book,
Thrillers: 100 Must-Reads, will be launched at the meeting and we expect at least fifty of the contributors to the collection of essays to be present. The co-editors, David Morrell and Hank Wagner, will play major roles at the meeting. Morrell will chair a panel that will discuss the importance of the book. Wagner as well as Bob Gussin, Oceanview CEO, will be panelists along with Tess Gerritson, Lee Child and Michael Palmer. There will also be several Oceanview authors attending the meeting including Ward Larsen, Terry Griffin, Sharon Potts, Barbara Levenson, Jack Dobbyn, Scott Pearson, Pat Gussin, Don Bruns and Jay LeBeau, who is also a nominee for Best First Novel for his book, Collision of Evil.
Oceanview is also pleased to announce the signing of two new authors. Jude Harden, whose book, Pocket 47, will be released in May 2011. Pascal Marco, whose book, Identity: Lost, will be released in June 2011. These books are guaranteed to excite you and keep you awake, reading long into the night.
Well, we will be getting back to you in August with a report on ThrillerFest and more exciting news. In the meantime, you can now also find us on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/oceanviewpub.
