Stephen Boehrer is a native of Wisconsin. After spending four years in the U.S. Navy, Boehrer enrolled in Holy Cross Seminary in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, where he earned his B.A. in Philosophy. Boehrer spent the next four years studying at the Gregorian University in Rome, Italy. Ordained as a priest in Rome, he returned to the LaCrosse Diocese spent a year in Wausau, Wisconsin, as an associate pastor. He later earned a doctorate in theology from The Catholic University in Washington, D.C. In 1968, Boehrer was appointed Chancellor of the LaCrosse Diocese. Boehrer lives with his wife, Rita Sheridan, in Wisconsin. The Purple Culture is his fourth novel.Stephen Boehrer gives a studied voice to those who care about the abuse of clerical power; who want to see the church leadership return to its original servant character.
